The BBC’s reboot of popular worldwide motoring show Top Gear is coming into sharper focus, as a new report from The Telegraph suggests that the latest additions to bolster the hosting cast are to include racing driver Sabine Schmitz and automotive journalist Chris Harris as co-hosts.
Love him or hate him, TV and radio personality Chris Evans has been assigned at the helm to host the new series to replace Jeremy Clarkson, but until now possible co-hosts have been intangible rumours for the most part. The assignment of Chris Evans has split opinions on the future of the show, many loving his personality or drool over his exotic and extensive collection of Ferraris including some of the rarest additions from the Italian car maker, others not being fond of his humour, persona and lack of general motoring background.

This may be corrected in spades if the lineup shapes up as reported.
Both Schmitz and Harris should be familiar faces to many petrol heads and fans of the show. Schmitz, a racing driver for BMW and Porsche (as well as driving the BMW Ring Taxi around the Nurburgring), has already appeared on episodes of the UK show, once beating Jeremy’s lap time set in an S-type around the Nurburgring in nothing more than a Ford Transit Van.

Harris, hosting his YouTube show and writing publications for some of the most followed car channels is a well received and respected authority on all things fast and motoring.

The report also speculates that former Formula 1 driver David Coulthard may join the cast.
The revamped show is set to debut in May 2016, which no doubt will face fierce competition due to Amazon Prime’s forthcoming motoring show which will feature the outgoing Top Gear trio of James May, Richard Hammond and of course, Jeremy Clarkson, whom parted company with the BBC following a ‘Fracas’ between Jeremy and one of the producers which followed with the resignation of May and Hammond.
For me personally? I’ve gotta say – my interest is re-ignited. Interesting times ahead!
