While many of the recent Vision Gran Turismo (VGT) concepts from various manufacturers exist in their fullest state in the digital realm, some concepts have one foot in reality. A new video highlighting the design of the Bugatti Vision Gran Turismo shows how the radical concept has more in touch with the future of Bugatti than you might think.

The Bugatti Vision Gran Turismo broke cover at this year’s Geneva auto show, and immediately set itself apart from previous VGT cars with a familiar outward appearance. Underneath the aerodynamic body lie the bones of the bygone Bugatti Veyron, albeit with a host of performance modifications. Bugatti did not release much performance data, but confirmed that the concept uses a W-16 engine like the Veyron and is able to crack 250 mph.

In the video, we get a look behind the scenes of the concept’s design process, along with commentary on how the concept fits into Bugatti’s future. According to Bugatti, the Vision Gran Turismo concept previews what is to come from the hypercar manufacturer. “Our previous chapter, the Bugatti Veyron, is over,” said Wolfgang Durheimer, President of Bugatti. “And Vision Gran Turismo is the first step into the new direction.” We have speculated on the future of the Bugatti brand and the upcoming Bugatti Chiron hypercar, the successor to the Veyron.
